The Best Time to Visit Egypt: Weather, Crowds & Prices Explained

Feb 04, 2026

1. The Peak Season: October to February

Best For: Perfect weather, Nile cruises, and family vacations.

• Weather: Expect sunny, mild days (20°C to 25°C) and cool evenings. This is the ideal climate for exploring the Pyramids and the Valley of the Kings without the heat.
• Crowds: This is the busiest time of year. Major sites will be crowded, especially during Christmas and New Year.
• Price: This is the most expensive season. Flights and hotels should be booked at least 4–6 months in advance.

2. The Shoulder Season: March to May & September

Best For: A balance of good weather and fewer tourists.

Weather: Temperatures begin to rise (28°C to 33°C). In late March/April, you may encounter the Khamsin—a warm, dusty wind from the desert.
• Why go now: You’ll find shorter lines at the Grand Egyptian Museum and better deals on luxury hotels compared to the winter peak.

3. The Low Season: June to August

Best For: Budget travelers and Red Sea diving.

• Weather: It is hot. Temperatures in Luxor and Aswan can exceed 40°C.
• Why go now: This is the cheapest time to visit. Luxury resorts often offer 30–50% discounts. If you stay in Red Sea resorts like Hurghada, the sea breeze makes the heat much more tolerable, and the water is perfect for diving.

4. Special Event: Ramadan 2026

In 2026, the Holy Month of Ramadan is expected to begin around February 18 and end on March 19.

• What to expect: The atmosphere is magical at night. Streets are decorated with lanterns (Fanoos), and cities come alive after sunset with festive "Iftar" meals.

• Pro Tip: While some local shops may close during the day, all major tourist sites and hotels remain open. It is a unique time to experience Egyptian hospitality at its peak.
